The Photographs

I do not pretend to be a brilliant photographer. It is a sad thought that my photographs do seem to lend themselves to being 'puzzled.' Without getting pretentious this is a little bit about the photographs

  • Marsden. Marsden is a village in or just outside Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. The photographs were taken at the back end of a sunny day in winter. The hill tops still catch the sun, but the valleys, the living space are about to turn in. The shadows are deep and long, and contrast with the gold of the hills.

A canal passes from Huddersfield through Marsden and comes to the foot of the Pennine hills. It can go so far, but then must disappear into the longest canal tunnel in the UK, Standedge. It is closed in winter, but in summer narrowboats gather at either end waiting being sent through in small herds, first East-West, and then West-East.

  • Whitby. Whitby is a small town on teh north East coast of England. It mainatins a delightful balance between tourist gee-gaws,
  • Turkey: We went to Turkey. We came back with photographs. The markets were colourful, and mercifully shady - I do not do sunshine.
"There's another five minutes wasted."
