The number of visits is best calculated from the 'style sheet' calls. Our style sheet is hit once only on each visit. The standard guide is the 'Page Impressions' figure. The Index figure is the number of visits to our front door. That this is lower than the overall number of visits, indicates that other people are linking directly to sub-pages (ok by us).
Some people want to know the number of 'hits.' This is fairly meaningless, but in January 2001, the figure was 129k per month..
How does the site compare with other law sites? We are very open about these figures, because they are good. 50,000 page impressions per month suggests a 'major commercial' site. For lawyers, the legal hit list , ranked us eighteenth nationally in August 2000. This puts us up and alongside national legal bodies, law firms, publishers and other web companies very many times our size.
