Our Pages - Why Like This?

Why are our pages like this?

  1. What - No Graphics?

I'm sure we should have some more - somewhere, but apart from a few bits they have been removed. This says, I hope, what this site is about. We are about the law, and about law text, and not about graphics.

I have a nil sense of design. Design seems to mean lots of tastefully coloured space around the text - acres of pixels, empty of text, but full of persuasive and cool piccies. I just can't seem to bring myself to do it. Sorry. I may set up a page or two for those who really miss the colours and graphics and whizz-bangs. Or I may not. Trust me, you should be grateful if I do not.

  2. How Old is this page?

Every page on this site shows - somewhere - the date when it was created. Take a look. You will see that they are constantly being updated, and think they might even have been improved. One or two pages are allowed to grow old gracefully. Sadly that means that I have grown less interested in that particular topic.

  3. Where is it?

Every page (outside the law-index) has on it somewhere, the name and URL of that page.

We still have a problem of having moved sites about three years ago. When we moved, I re-organised the directories. It was a mistake. We still have about fifty calls a day to the old site structure. One by one I am whittling down the sources of error, but it takes a lot of time.

  4. Hey, I found a broken link

Then so have I. If it is an internal link within the pages, I am having a purge. I am checking the 404s every day(-ish) and we have achieved a huge reduction in the number of errors.

If you think I have not found it, please to mail us to say where the link was.

  5. Rating Our Site

We do not partricularly believe in the value of rating sites on the Internet. It can be abused for commercial purposes and either cripples the Web, or is unreliable. Nevertheless, our site is adult only in the sense of being grown-up, and we would not wish to exclude visitors from it. We have therefore rated the site under PICS, via RSACi. As you might imagine, we rate (I hope) 0 0 0 0 (No sex, no drugs, no rock, no roll?)

  6. Page Moved

Being fidgety, and wishing to climb ever upwards, I have tended to change the layout of the site far too frequently. I then forget (have in the past forgotten) that people link directly to sub-pages. In most cases, I now have in place a 'page moved' page redirecting you to the current location.

  7. Spelling Mistakes. In practice these are my typing errors. I spell better than I type. Our pages are getting better, but this is a constant source of embarrassment to me. Sorry. I welcome corrections, but appreciate it is my job to get things right before a page is published.
May 2000. I have now instituted a more formal program of spell checking text before it gets on-line. New material can only get on within the law-bytes if it has had a going over.
Important: Please note that our law-bytes are retained for archival purposes only. The law changes, and these notes are often, now, out of date. You must take direct advice on your own personal situation and the law as it currently stands.
All information on this site is in general and summary form only. The content of any page on this site may be out of date and or incomplete, and you should not not rely directly upon it. Take direct professional legal advice which reflects your own particular situation.
