Republic of Haiti -v- Duvalier [1990] 1 QB 202

	The defendant had fled from Haiti with a large part of that country's assets while in power. Proceedings were pending in France which gave no jurisdiction to grant a worldwide freezing or disclosure order. He had used a firm of English solicitors as his agents to conceal the stolen assets and the court ordered the firm to give information about the funds, granting world wide relief meanwhile under s.25. The Convention requires each contracting state to make available, in aid of the court of another contracting state, such provisional and protective measures as its own domestic law would afford if its courts were trying the substantive action. That would be harmonisation of jurisdiction, although not of remedies.
