Hi all,

Hope you had a better Xmas and new year than I did

Here is my question. I visit a house regularly to pick a relation up. The occupant has 3 cameras that I am aware of, two of which pose little argument to me, as one is monitoring their car, and the other is pointing into their garden. However, the third, is a camcorder, set up in the downstairs window, pointing directly at (and over) the gate to the property. No signs anywhere to give notice of CCTV, just my observant nature. Now, the third one, surely as that is recording over the gate, that is beyond the property boundaries, and as such, does that breach HR laws? I'm sure it breaches some sort of law, and the fact there is no notice to warn of CCTV, isn't that enough to render CCTV pointless anyway, as it could not be used as evidence of anything?

Cheers.

Howdy.... I phoned the home office couple years back re, positioning of camera's, and , well, did they consider it spying n all? I was told if its fixed position and people walk into view from your property then no worries. Their main concern was if people were zooming in tracking folks n such.......

Maybe try the home office to see what their latest guidance is........ ?

I'm Not a lawyer, but the old lady down the road was concerned with young weekenders having a few too many straying off the lane into here garden n such like, and i was querying what if we put a camera from our gaff panning down the lane (200 metres or so) Can we do it ?

Yes we can ! Any help ?

After that I also thought of the idea of neighbourhood watch see! no need for curtain twitchers as everyone has a web cam pointing out their front windows ! Scary, but I expect its here/ coming !

edit, yah, camera's into peoples homes? Right to Privacy Violation ? Worth checking further.........

No law is broken here. This is a data protection act issue and it is allowed. Check the information commissioner office website or helpline.

Human rights law operates as between individuals and the state, not as between individuals.
