No I do not know how to host a forum myself on a paid web host. Or on my own server liker David does with this forum. My forum is hosted on Forumotion. Which is a free forum service like Proboards, but I have my own custom domain. That is custom URL, which I bought through Forumotion.

Which is the same as hosting my blogs on Blogger but on my own custom domain on Blogger.I bought my custom URL for my blogs through Blogger. But even though you have your own custom URL,(example my site.com instead of my site.blogspot.com or my site.forumotion.com.) You are still just logging in to the panel of Bloger,Wordpress,Forumotion or Proboards. So you are still subject to their terms and conditions, custom domain or not.And the disadvantage of that is they can take your site away from you any time. Also if the free blogging or forum service closes down,so does your blog or forum.

Where as if you are hosting your blog or forum yourself on your own web server or through a paid web host. They cannot or it is not so easy for them. But hosting your website, blog or forum on your own server or web host. Is quite tricky and I understand it means downloading your own software and uploading files to your server. And I don't know how to do that. But your site is more secure that way. As then you are in charge of your own content. And you are not subject to the terms and conditions of Blogger,Wordpress,Forumotion or Proboards.

Andrea, I use Windows 7 on my lappy at home. I kinda like it. How different is Windows 8? Is it really worth getting?

I need simple words when it comes to software.

Well Booboo Windows 8 does of course have the Metro theme. That is the Metro start menu. But you can install Classic Shell
http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/

Which is a free start menu software to get back the start button and Windows 7 start menu. And once you have installed Classic Shell Windows 8 is a lot like Windows 7. Most of the old Windows XP and Windows Vista software works on Windows 8. But there is some software that does not. So it loses a couple of points.

At the moment I have got Windows 8 Release Preview which is the RC or Beta version of Windows 8. But I am going to install Windows 8 Pro the retail version. That I bought two weeks ago when I get time. I have netbooks, so Metro apps don't work on a netbook. But all of the ordinary software you use on Windows XP and Windows 7 works on Windows 8. One disadvantage of Windows 8 is that it is only being sold as an upgrade install version. Not a full install version like Windows 7 and the other versions of Windows. But the upgrade version works on Windows XP,Windows Vista and Windows 7. So you can upgrade to Windows 8 Pro from any of those versions of Windows.

Thanks for the link. I'm not too keen on the classic shell. I do like the look of the Metro start thingy. I see it's had a luke warm reception.

Oh so you know about Classic Shell? yes it also works on Windows 7 and windows Vista. And gives you the Windows XP and Windows 98 start menu. As for the Metro start menu,I find it inadequate for my needs. As a lot of Windows users do.There are some functions missing. That's why I need the Windows 7 or Windows XP start menu. Which software like Classic Shell and Start Menu 7 or Vi Start give you.
