Getting urgent action from an MP.

Getting urgent action from an MP.

Postby Hairyloon » Fri Nov 02, 2012 2:28 pm

Before the board crashed, somebody gave Booboo some advice on how to get her MP to get some sock pulled up in respect of her homeless client.
It seemed to be very useful advice, could I ask for a repeat?

Well, first things first, it needs to be a matter that your MP agrees is a matter needing urgent action - the example from before IIRC was of someone reduced to rough-sleeping because of the delays to his benefits.

If that is so, call the House of Commons switchboard - sorry, I can't look the number up, I'm writing this on my Blackberry - and ask to be put through to your MP's Parliamentary Assistant. MP's casework is normally dealt with by a Special Casework Unit who have the power to do whatever is necessary to avoid awkward questions in the House.

Just to clarify, I assume that you mean you should call the switchboard to persuade the MP (by proxy) to agree. What you've written suggests he needs to agree first.

Er, yes. He's not going to agree before you've spoken to him...
