Mixed road, trail and hill.
Two steep hills and climbs.
Heights are shown in square brackets in metres. Leg distances in miles in round brackets.
Leave Saville Park Moor by the F&C shop [175m], going up the left hand side of the moor (Skircoat Moor Road) turning left opposite the school [first high point192m], down Wakefield Gate. Cross onto Upper Washer Lane and then again onto Edwards Road, meeting Pye Nest Road [144m] (.93m) Regroup.
Turn left down Pye Nest Hill and then Bolton Brow to the traffic lights at the corner with Wakefield Road. Take Chapel Lane across the road and a few yards on. Follow it down and then over the canal and river on Gas Works Lane, then turning l;eft on Mearcroft Lane until you meet Fall Lane as it descends steeply on your right. REGROUP and take a deep breath. [83m] (.86 miles)
Think that one day you will run all the way up Fall Lane. Until then welcome the bliss of self acceptance, and head up the hill (past the NO HGV sign). You climb 77m in under a quarter mile. Breathe again at the junction [161m]. Follow the obvious road up and to your left, London Road and keep on as it climbs and curves round the hill away to your right. Get to the next junction, where a road comes in sharply from the right (.64 miles) [183m]. Regroup.
Take the sharp right (Norland Town Road) going back around the hill this time anti-clockwise - but stil climbing. At the junction with Berry Moor Road [225m], take the left fork along Stormer Hill Lane, climbing rather more gently now [run high point at 231m]. Go forward onto Clough Road, and then again onto Norland Road. Just after the dip and bridge, turn left up Turbury Lane. A few yards on take the roadway to your left in front of the farm, through the gate, and along the pathway with the trees and drop to your left and the fields to your right. You meet a gate in the fence to your left, go through it and follow the path to your right which goes along in the woods (North Dean Woods) just below the brow of the hill. At one point you have to follow a well worn clamber down some rocks before following the path again. Eventually you come out on a path which goes back down hill but sharply down to your left. After a hundred yards or more it meets another unmetalled road (N Dean Rd) which descends along the bottom of the wood. Hollow it downhill into Copley, coming out on Cople Lane, past the church and rugby pitch on your right, and under the railway bridge.[72m] (2.14miles) REGROUP.
Follow Copley lane as it rises to cross the canal, and then again up to Wakefield Road. Cross and climb on up, over the railway bridge (its a different rail line) and up following Copley lane to the righ. You come out onto a large triangular junction. Go ahead and to your left along Skircoat Green Road. When you come to the traffic lights turn left and uphill on Skircoat Green Road till you have the F&C shop in your sights. Home. [175m] (1.31m)
