Mixed road, trail and peat bog.
Very Keen Beginner and above. There is at least a hundred metres between the lowest anf highest point of the run, but there are in addition some sharp drops and climbs. The paths which lead through the woods around Ogden reservoir are not marked on the map, nor generaly visible on Google earth. It is probably worth buying a plan from the local shop if you can. The car park has an honesty box, and the toilets have facilities for the short stay disabled!
| Distance (miles) | Description | Height (metres) | ||
| Start | End | |||
| 1.30 | Leave Ogden Reservoir Car Park (SE 066 309), running East back to Causeway Foot - the main road (A629). Turn left uphill coming into Denholme Gate Village. REGROUP (SE 071 326). | 301 | 321 | |
| 1.53 | Turn Left up Black Edge Lane (Bronte Way), which becomes Thornton Moor Road, eventually passing below the bank of the Thornton Moor Reservoir to your left. | 367 | ||
| 1.44 | You come to a T junction (SE 050 336), and turn left below the end of the reservoir, climbing up. After about half a kilometre turn left (SE 046 333) and South on a road/path across the moors. This is known as Hambleton Lane. It has the high point of the run at 426m. There are lovely views down to your left over Oxenhope. Come to a stone seat (SE 054 318) to the right of the path, above a deep cleft (Great Scar). (Regroup) | 376 | ||
| .88 | Below you to your right is a deep cleft. The short way home is to continue. The longer way home dips down the steep valley, across the bridge, and climbing the long stone steps on the far bank. Follow the pathway South West toward the top of the moor. In the distance is the white walled pub (now closed). You head towards it, but do not quite get there. After the high point of this leg at 419m, and another dip (Skirden Clough) and footbridge (SE 048 310), you meet a path/crossroad (SE 047 308). The path you meet is much more clearly defined. | 410 | ||
| .68 | Turn left to the East on another trail road leading downhill with, eventually, Halifax Golf Course to your right. To your left, you meet the woods above Ogden reservoir. Shortly after is a stile in the wall. (End of section). The simplest and shorter route follows the main track back down to the foot of the reservoir and backacross the dam to the car park. | |||
| 1.27 | Far better is to hop over the stile to your left, (SE 055 307) and to follow the pathways through the woods. These meander unpredictably, with many alternatives routes, but you cannot get lost, before eventually you find your way to the path which now encircles the reservoir, and which you can follow, till you come out at the foot of the reservoir (SE 064 306), cross the dam wall and get back to the car park. | |||
